Liang Fu

Paris-based painter Liang Fu approaches landscape through the concept of transparency, both abstract and literal. “I’m not only interested in transparency as a material quality, but also in what kinds of transparency we can speak about through materials, whether in relation to nature or within a social context,” he said. 

Among its many satellite events this year, one caught my eye—and appetite: a collaboration between Art Drunk Kitchen and artist Liang Fu, who brought Sichuan street food to l’Appartement Piaget, a speakeasy at the luxury house’s Place Vendôme apartment.

Inspired by Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, the show brings together 14 artists from around the world exploring ideas of identity, memory, and time.

“As a new generation chinese artist, being influenced by different cultural backgrounds allows my work to resonate and connect with diverse audiences, and that is what I find most meaningful.”

What exactly happens during an out-of-body experience? Do our souls transcend, while our bodies linger in this world? The group exhibition ‘Disembodied’ attempts to explore this subject, presenting a diverse range of sophisticated works exuding ecstasy and sensuality. One risks getting lost in this parallel universe, but is guided through darkness and the unknown by the wise visions of these artists.

Fu’s artistic exploration revolves around the intricate interplay among tangible forms, geographical landscapes, and the fluid progression of time. With a foundation in a familial tradition of appreciating antiques, Liang Fu’s artistic perspective is imbued with a profound comprehension of historical aesthetics.

While dust inevitably returns to dust, Liang Fu’s work serves as a reminder that perpetual reinvention holds its own beauty.

While we’re asleep, astral apparitions and images wash over us in our dream world. When we wake up, we may try to recall them, but they ultimately slip away. The work of Paris-based Chinese artist Liang Fu is as if someone has found those images, held on to them and transformed them in to art.
