Agnieszka Nienartowicz’s (b. 1991, Jelenia Góra, Poland) hyper-realistic oil paintings exude sensuality and mystery in tranquil and intimate settings. Her depictions of tattooed women reference and recontextualize works from the Renaissance, Old Master, and religious movements, and provide a glimpse into a hidden world full of unsolved riddles and secret thoughts.
Nienartowicz lives and works in Kraków, Poland. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, where she received a Master of Fine Arts in 2016. Nicodim Gallery was founded by Mihai Nicodim in 2006 in Chinatown in Los Angeles. Since then, the gallery has moved to a larger space in Los Angeles and opened two more galleries in the same building. The gallery has also opened spaces in New York and Bucharest. Rae Klein’s painting, “Dog with Blue Eyes,” is a visual mastery. Her paintings are alluring and mysterious and move us into a dream-like reflective state of mind. Isabelle Albuquerque’s sculpture is enthralling. Her sculptures examine female sensuality and yearning and its expression in physical form.
The dizzying hallways and poolside cabanas of Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel come alive with art that leans into the lowbrow.
Nicodim presents Isabelle Albuquerque at Felix Art Fair. Situated poolside at the historic Roosevelt Hotel, Nicodim arrives this year at the Felix Art Fair with a beautiful presentation of artists. Centered around Isabelle Albuquerque’s Shadow Cruiser, a bronze sculpture holding great intent, artists Jeanine Brito, Ian Davis, Emily Ferguson, Tomas Harker, Devin B. Johnson, Rae Klein, Agnieszka Nienartowicz, Maureen St. Vincent have created new works for this year’s exhibition. Each experiments with identity expression, figuration, and fantasy through painting and sculpture. Also, Stanley Edmondson’s ceramic Gigantors will be displayed, rounding out an exceptional group of artists.
Nicodim will inaugurate its new annex gallery with Agnieszka Nienartowicz: Sweet Burden, the artist’s first solo show in the United States. Nienartowicz’s hyper-realistic oil paintings recontextualize Old Master, Renaissance, and Catholic interpretations of bible scenes and religious tales, in many instances layering them directly onto female bodies and faces. Raised in the Catholic church, Nienartowicz acutely understands the emotional impact of religion and how belief systems and spiritual practices can leave a lasting impression on one’s psyche.
