A row of exhausted pseudo-animals seems to be in the homestretch of a marathon. With their long polystyrene necks, they remain in-line, civilized, desperately glancing ahead without even noticing us. They are convinced that they will find their answers and their liberation on the other side of the wall, and they are ready to do anything to get there.
Cristian Răduță utilizes the gallery's architecture to create a snapshot of a play about to end, proposing a journey among and through shapes that contaminate each other. The characters seem to be created as a matter of urgency, through methods that sometimes went out of control. Temporary materials are mistaken as permanent—and the other way around—until the idea of improvisation becomes relative.
The idol behind the wall appears monumental. Few are able to see that, in turn, the idol is crippled; its charm is slowly stolen away, its pedestal is pierced. Cristian Răduță creates monumentality only to ironize it immediately afterwards.
Cristian Răduță lives and works as an artist in Bucharest and is co-founder of the Sandwich artist-run gallery space. His artistic practice includes sculptures, objects and installations that start from hypothetical, sometimes absurd situations and characters which are humorously employed. He is interested in the relationships and tensions that form among the various industrial and bricolage materials he uses. His works have been shown at Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Salonul de Proiecte Bucharest (duo with Dan Perjovschi), Museum of Sculpture, Krolikarnia Palace, Warsaw (2017) and The National Museum of Contemporary Art Bucharest (2014).
Un șir de pseudo-animale epuizate par a fi pe ultima sută de metri a unui maraton. Cu gâturi lungi de polistiren și priviri disperate către înainte, rămân, totuși, civilizate, în rând, fără ca măcar să ne bage în seamă. Au convingerea că de partea celalaltă a peretelui vor găsi răspunsul și eliberarea și sunt gata să facă orice pentru a ajunge acolo.
Cristian Răduță folosește arhitectura galeriei pentru a crea un stop-cadru într-o piesă de teatru aflată pe final și propune un parcurs prin și printre forme ce se contaminează reciproc. Personajele par a fi create în regim de urgență, prin procedee uneori scăpate de sub control. Materiale temporare se confundă cu materiale solide, și invers, încât ideea de improvizație devine relativă.
Idolul din spatele peretelui este, într-adevăr, monumental și poate induce în eroare pe oricine. Puțini văd că, la rândul său, este ciuntit, că i se fură puțin câte puțin din farmec, că soclul său este de fapt găurit. Cristian Răduță creează monumentalitate doar ca să o poată ironiza imediat după.
Cristian Răduță locuiește și lucrează ca artist în București și este co-fondator al spațiului Sandwich. Practica sa artistică include sculpturi, obiecte și instalații care pornesc de la situații și personaje ipotetice, uneori absurde, exploatate cu umor. Este interesat, printre altele, de relațiile și tensiunile care se creează între diferitele materiale industriale și de bricolaj pe care le folosește. A expus la Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Salonul de Proiecte (împreună cu Dan Perjovschi), Museum of Sculpture, Krolikarnia Palace, Varșovia (2017) și Muzeul Național de Artă Contemporană București (2014).
Raduţa’s installation leads us to the possibilities through which we engage collectively and personally the meaning of the world; he invites the viewer to engage himself in a different interpretive effort than the aesthetic one to discover how, to paraphrase a famous chapter in Nietzsche’s Twilight of the Idols, “the world finally become a fable.” | By Emilian Mărgărit
